CIFAS

  • Campaign Overview

First party fraud has long been a problem throughout the UK – and it continues to rise. Since 2021, Cifas and Opinion Matters have polled 2,000 nationally representative UK adults to find out their attitudes towards this type of fraud and as a result are able to benchmark figures and create insight into the growing threat of first party fraud.

  • The Campaign

Do consumers think reclaiming money for a lost bet is reasonable? Or is selling a car on finance privately and continuing to make repayments considered illegal? Have they lied on their CVs to inflate their qualifications?

Through the campaign created to highlight the results of the research, Cifas has underlined the most ‘common’ types of first party fraud, what people felt were the most ‘reasonable’ fraudulent acts to commit and which scenarios people didn’t see as being illegal.

  • The Results

As a result, they’ve not only been able to better understand people’s behaviours towards fraud, but also educate them about the severe consequences of committing it – because it is anything but a ‘harmless crime’.
